This fantastic audiobook covers a number of key individuals in the development of medicine. Hippocrates, Galen, Hildegard of Bingen, Ibn Sina, Al-Razi, Vesalius, William Harvey, Edward Jenner, Semmelweiss, Pasteur, Lister, Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie, Alexander Fleming, Francis Crick and James Watson. A fantastic jumping-off point for learning more about developments in anatomy and the treatment of diseases.

Galen and the Gateway to Medicine

Jeanne Bendick

An enjoyable and accessible read, with many black-and-white illustrations. This book gives lots of context for the ancient Roman world in which Galen operated, as well as sharing the story of Galen’s life, from his early studies in Pergamum, to his work with gladiators and Roman Emperors.

People in History Vol. 4: Great People of Modern Times

R. J. Unstead

Of particular interest here is the short biography of Alexander Fleming. It is only about a dozen pages long, so not worth buying the book just for this purpose, but the other biographies are also very interesting. There are a few line-drawn illustrations.
